Why can humans commit sins?

Allah created humans with free will (ikhtiyar) - the ability to choose between right and wrong. Unlike angels who only obey, humans can choose to follow or disobey Allah's guidance. The Quran says: 'Indeed, We offered the trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, but they declined to bear it... and mankind undertook it' (33:72). This free will is what makes our worship meaningful and our good deeds rewarded. Sin exists as a test, and Allah in His mercy has provided repentance (tawbah) as the path back to Him. Every human sins, but the best sinners are those who repent.
