What is the Quran?
Muslims believe the Quran is revelation from God, communicated in Arabic to the Prophet Muhammad. It is recited, studied, memorized, and interpreted within a living tradition.
Translations help readers access its meaning, but Muslims distinguish a translation from the Arabic Quran itself. Reading more than one reputable translation can help you notice where wording differs.
This is a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, that they might reflect upon its verses. — Quran 38:29
The central idea: one God
At the heart of Islam is tawhid: the oneness of God. The Quran presents God as creator, merciful, and beyond comparison, while inviting people to worship and turn to Him.
This is not a demand to suppress questions. The Quran repeatedly asks people to reflect, observe, and consider.
Say, He is Allah, the One; Allah, the Eternal Refuge. — Quran 112:1–2
